The cemetery itself is well kept. The people who help make the arrangements and order the stones and plots are not very friendly. Given the situation as to why my family was there, it would have been nice for them to have shown more compassion.
In December 2016 my family members noticed a crack and a chip in our mother and father granite marker. We also, noticed a freshly dug grave next to our parents grave site. We contacted the front office and the president of Oak Lawn Cemetery and informed them of this situation but all we got was the run around. Contacted the Maryland Office of Cemetery Oversight to no avail. Finally gave in and our family paid $175.00 to have the granite stone replaced. We feel Oak Lawn Cemetery should have held the parties who dug the grave next to our parents accountable for this damage. We feel we paid for someones negligence and no one stepped up to admit they caused the damage. Needless to say Oak Lawn Cemetery will no longer get any of my family's business.
Most of the cemetery is kept up, I was 19 when my husband passed, I laid him to rest there, because his mother wanted to, he is in either a family member or friends plot, so I have no control over what is done to the grave sight, I wrote an e mail to the the VP. A few days ago, have not got a reply yet, I live out of state and everytime I go to the grave sight it is horrible, I've had to get on my hands and knees to dig out his stone, it is buried under dirt and branches from the bush, this last time my hands were raw and itchy from the bugs biting me while looking for his marker, also the family who owns the gravesight they have a big upright stone I had to get down and look for it it is completely over run by the tree branches, you would never know there is a marker in there , while most of the cemetery is looking good, there are quite a few spots that need help, he is in the Elsinore section, also his step father is there somewhere, and I have not found his stone yet, I had to quit digging, my hands were too sore
