Going to this salon has truly changed my life. I wanted to return to my natural hair but to say I was extremely frustrated in my journey would be a major understatement. I spent countless dollars and wasted hours trying to figure out how to care for and style my hair and nothing worked. So many different blogs and youtube videos and NOTHING worked for me. Just when I was going to give up I went to Diaspora Hair Salon and it changed EVERYTHING! Yasmin and Leah are AMAZING!!! They were so patient and so knowledgeable. They talked to me about MY hair, the products they used and why, practices I should adopt and some I should leave alone. They allowed me to look and ask questions as they styled...they truly wanted me to learn. After my visits there I now know what works for my hair. I now know how to care for my hair. I now know how to style my hair and with what products and it's all thanks to this salon. That gift is truly priceless and I can't thank them enough.
Now to why I was there. I originally made a deva cut appointment but after I finished the prescreening application the women advised I would be getting a curly cut since I do stretch my hair as well as style it curly. Well when I got home and the hair started to move I saw that I got a a- symmetrical 80's hair the back of my hair looks like I have a bawled spot and that one side one person cut the other she cut. One side is longer and the other is short and rounded at the end. It is very noticeable and I have taken many pictures and sent them to her. She was not apologetic just asked why I was sending pictures like she couldn't see the error. She offered no solution until I advised I wanted my money back and that was to come in within 7 days to get it repaired. I explained in and email my prior bad experiences in hair salons and that I would not be returning ever. Gave her a chance to say something remotely feeling bad about the service and the hair but I got you keep sending pictures without saying why.
I hate writing reviews on black businesses (which I rarely do) but I would hate for someone else to have this experience. I know the hair will grow back but prior to going to her I got my hair stretched and cut and that stylist charged half the price and was friendly, personable, professional, and would have never been so cold about a service she performed.
The worst experience of my life! I went to this salon with beautiful long curls and left with short, slicked down hair. She chopped my hair off, my hair feels limp and uneven. I literally had a nervous breakdown over my hair and I will be wearing scarfs on my head until it grows back. There is no way I should have left and paid $135 to HATE my hair. I actually HATE my hair now and I once loved it. She ruined my hair, my confidence and my self esteem. My hair was my glory and now I want to hide it. She was a nice lady but I don't recommend anyone to see this salon for a "deva cut"
The owner today advised she would not refund my money but would let me come in to fix my hair. At $140 I would never allow her to touch my hair again. I have to say I was excited to spend the money on a great cut. I read the reviews and was unbothered by her being personable. I was impressed but hated doing the application before my visit because I thought the consultation was going to be what I needed. I spoke to Leah way more and she was more helpful than the owner. I took an appoint changebin time expecting my consultation but the conversation had more to do with natural hair in general than my hair. It last as long as the cut and she didn't touch my hair again until it was dry and fluffed it out cut more or it and I was done.
Not the type of service I expected for the price.
Thank you, for giving me S. Cut. I have gotten the Deva Cut from my previous stylist and I realized and seen the difference between the two.
I came to this salon after finding Diaspora on social media. I saw the Curl Discovery service on their website, and decided to bite, even though I didn't think much would come of it; I never thought "I" had CURLY hair. They have an online consultation form, which I had never seen at a salon before, and the salon assistant called me back, and we had a 15 minute discussion, which I really appreciated. I had questions about this curly thing... When I came in to the salon, I was greeted, invited to sit in the stylists chair, and draped with a Deva Curl cape. Yasmine went over my consultation form with me, and we started the service. When I left, I had CURLS and shape. I purchased all the products they used on my hair that day, and that was refreshing that they sold products that you can't get everywhere. I have never seen my hair like how it was done at this salon, and now I go every 2-3 weeks for my curls to be defined. The conversation is positive, funny, and all the ladies are professional and ON TIME. I've been to this salon 6 times now, and plan to keep going. They showed me how to define my curls at home, but I can't seem to make my curls POP like they do, so I leave it up to them. Tip: Park in their lot on Thursdays and Fridays. It's behind the salon. Also, make sure to do their DETOX process. It makes a TON of difference!!! They had to explain the whole benefit of detoxing your hair that to me, but it makes sense. If you're looking for a natural hair or curly hair salon, I highly recommend this business!
I will definitely go back to Yasmine. She was very detailed and have educated me thoroughly on how to keep my curls flawless and healthy. After a week from appointment, I've washed, treated, and styled with the products that were recommended by this salon; I also air dried my hair, and I can not believe how great it still feels and look. The curly cut looked as if I have gotten it freshly done by a professional. The cut have really done its justice. Thank you, Diaspora!
Think hard before going to Yasmine. The other persons and her assistant seem wonderful.
