Notre Dame of Maryland was the last college I visited, but the first one that felt like home. I'm only a sophomore, but I know that I made the best decision because the faculty, staff, and student body make this place so great. My professors are always available and helpful, which is great in a pinch, and living on campus with my friends is the best thing I could have asked for. The programs create something for everyone (as seen in my own dorm!) with one roommate as Pre-Pharm in the 3/4 year program, the other currently applying for the Nursing Program, and I'm applying for the 5 year MAT program for education. Notre Dame really is the place to be!
This review is of the Entry level BSN nursing program. To be fair, this institution actually has a very good nursing program. The culture of the environment however needs plenty of improvements. This nursing program lacks cultural diversity and sensitivity. The nursing program still caters to its largely Caucasian student population. All of the full time professors that lecture are white with the exception of one Indo-Caribbean professor. This has created an environment of both intentional and unintentional biases, which has also created an open tolerance for racial and ethnic prejudices that should never be acceptable in an educational environment. The nursing program would greatly benefit from including an office of Cultural diversity and inclusion to better accommodate and nurture its students from different racial and ethnic backgrounds.
Best school for teachers who are having certification challenges. I spent nearly 8 years trying to get certification reciprocity from another state. From local counties, I had been told I needed 28 credits to teach Middle Grades Math, 39 for Tech Ed, both critical need. Other universities said to find out what MSDE said I needed and come back. Notre Dame mapped out 4 different pathways with their ACT Accelerated Certification in Teaching program. The lowest was 4 classes, and I am choosing the 6 classes which are directly related to my work.
I love Notre Dame. Coming from California, I have found a home away from home. The small community encourages me to strive for greatness. All of the teachers know my name. Every day, as I walk across campus, people wave and say hello. Also as a student athlete, NDMU has so much to offer. We welcome tri-sport athletes, and the coaches are super encouraging. If I need to miss class for a game, my teachers are very understanding. I had so many great colleges to choose from when I was a senior in high school, but it is clear I made the right choice. The opportunities, environment, and education have made me a fearless Notre Dame woman.
very boring, not much to do, the staff are kinda rude, the food is not that good i dont know how its acceptable to serve to people. On tours they show you rooms on first floor and say these are the smallest room in the whole dormitory and really they are really not, currently my room is alot smaller than the show rooms, so dont fall for that. they will stick you in a single room with another person so be aware of that too.
