I have been here several times and still have not seen it all. You can spend the day here and not get bored. I have taken my family several times and they love it every time. And yes it is free!
The museum is great. The parking lot across from it , not so much. I understand that it's $15 per day and if one wants to park overnight you must pay $15 for the next day as the day ends at midnight. I pay $30 to park overnight in a pinch and the next morning the attendant blocks my car in with another persons vehicle claiming he had to pay $15 out of his own pocket for something he could't clearly explain because he couldn't see the ticket displayed on my dash board? That I clearly displayed on my dash board because other wise the vehicle will be towed, they tell you that when you buy parking there and I've used the lot 4 times in the past. Had to give him $20 so he could unblock my car and so that I could leave. Long story short, one of the workers here is corrupt. The other staff have always been great and knowledgeable about the lot rules. I just don't park here anymore.
This was a surprising find after we discovered that the Peabody library was closed for a private event. There's a couple Fabrege eggs there now and a neat exhibit about the Romanov family. Some pretty interesting zoological specimen collections too.
The Faberge egg exhibit was really interesting. We also enjoyed the art of Asia exhibit. A member of the staff warned us that the Asia exhibit was easy to miss since it was down some stairs. Don't be afraid to ask if you don't see much there. There is a multi level exhibit with tons of Buddhist art there.
This is a great free museum. It has a good variety of historical artifacts and art from different time periods (e.g. Egyptian artifacts, Renaissance sculpture, Medieval armor, etc.). This is much more of a classical museum than a modern museum. They regularly host events for all ages - tours for adults, crafting nights for children, late nights for young adults, special events that correspond with city events like the monument lighting. It is spacious and always clean.
