This is perhaps the most emotionally charged American history museum. Although it depicts the truth, it is not for the light hearted. Scenes of torture, abuse and slavery are prominent and graphic. Warning: some scenes and exhibits are not suitable for children. (A sign on the wall asks that you "don't be bitter or despondent over what you see". Not an easy feat.)

Great concept, poor execution.... Needs more support dollars to make the experience better... stuffy, musty, dirty rails, bathrooms and the exhibits needs some LOVE... I will not ever go back

Every HUMAN being should see this museum and a must for persons of color. Graphically and visually displayed to feel and imagine what my people endured and presently enduring. The staff was friendly and the guide was more than knowledgeable of Black history. The museum will be modernized in the upcoming year let’s not lose focus of the message and information that is presented in this wonderful, food for thought exhibit!!

For as many years as this museum has been established, I have only just visited. It was very informative and was much larger than I expected. I am excited about their expansion .

This place is powerful. It informed me about people that I have never heard of that fought for our freedom and killed on our behalf. I also learned important facts about history that I was never taught. But if you are reading this, they are in need of donations for a new facility. I believe you can just go on the website to donate. The facility needs work to make it a more modernized and fresh environment. Definitely go visit.
